The Story Behind CMMN LINE
CMMN LINE began with a simple idea: What do we all have in common?
For founder Makeda Edwards, the answer kept coming back to people, community, and the spaces that bring us together.
The original idea developed from the connection between kinship and sport — family, chosen family, teammates, classmates, alumni, communities, courts, fields, stadiums, and the larger “field” of life.
That idea eventually became COMMON LINE.
The name represents the invisible line connecting people through shared experiences and shared roots. It also speaks directly to sport: the lines on a field, a court, a track, or a playing surface. In fashion, it represents the clothing line itself. In life, it represents the thread connecting where we come from to where we are going.
The abbreviated CMMN wordmark and signature line running through it were created to reflect that idea visually — a continuous line connecting everything.
